Hot Tea – The best beverage for cold weather.

Cold weather. Hot tea in one hand and a good book in another. Life is pretty much set. I have everything I ever need at that moment. The way a hot cup of tea can make me feel so full and content with life is almost incomparable to anything else. In my world, the tea makes for a very good companion. A silent companion that can give me all the warmth and satisfaction and yet not be overbearing. The beautiful comfortable silence and all I can hear is my heart beat fast while I take a sip of the aromatic cardamom flavoured Earl Gray.

It is an age-old practice of having hot drinks on warm days as well. I have been told by my grandmother that consuming a hot drink such as tea in summer will, in reality, help you cool down. Recently, evidence supporting this theory has emerged. I wasn't looking for any proof. I have genuinely found comfort in my hot tea in the cold.

In my opinion, there is nothing better than a hot tea on a rainy day. I am not the only one who believes in this. There are thousands out there who look forward to the same hot cup of tea as I do. This is where the idea of a tea business came up. People do not want a fancy meal or heavy food. All that is needed at that point is a warm tea. Tea business has taken off big time. I have seen fancy cafes that offer just tea and biscuits. The variety of flavours that are out there is just unbelievable. I have this favourite tea cafe that I visit thrice a week or when the weather is good. The flavour that I pick depends on my mood. Now I have always been asked this question - Why do I prefer tea over coffee? Was it a well -contemplated decision? Was it just a habit that now became second nature to me? Do I believe that tea is healthier than coffee? They were all good questions.

Let’s take a look at some of the points that come to my head now. Let’s start with my favourite - the cup of tea. The list of reasons why I prefer this over coffee or any other beverage is that there are rich antioxidants that fight inflammation and prevent the blood vessels from becoming hard. It is believed that there is a lower chance of heart disease and stroke. Brain health is also boosted.

Now coffee. Coffee also has antioxidants. It is said to protect coffee-drinkers from certain types of cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and type two diabetes.

Those who wake up to coffee believe that there is a magic to this drink that not only wakes them up and makes them feel alive but also helps them think in a calm manner. The flip side to this is that they could be addicted to coffee.

I have seen a few regular coffee drinkers who go absolutely berserk if they do not get the beverage on time. Would I say that about me if I do not get my tea on time? I don’t know. The jury is still out on that, I guess.

There are some people who consume both and are perfectly okay with having anything that they can at that moment. There are some who are appalled at having anything other than their personal choice. In my world, while I think it is up to each individual and that I would not judge anyone for having coffee, tea is my cup of tea.

In the end, I believe that there are merits to both beverages and that it all boils down to personal tastes and preferences. There is no right answer to this question. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that I prefer tea today simply because I have been having it every day since I started including caffeine in my diet.

The answer is very simple.

I drink tea and I would not want to trade it for anything else in the world. It is my personal choice to have tea twice a day. My morning tea is accompanied with some lovely crispy digestive biscuits.
